You built a life that traps you. Now design the exit.

I'm Cody Carson Clark. Code X is 1:1 coaching for men in their 30s to 60s who are successful on paper and empty in practice. We find your purpose first — then build the money mechanics to fund it. Not a course. Not motivation. A real exit, designed and lived.

The $150 is credited in full toward Freedom by Design if we go ahead. If it's not a fit, I'll tell you so on the call — no pitch. Design a real exit, starting with one honest conversation.

Who you're dealing with

Meet your coach

Most coaches teach freedom from books. I walked out of a planned life to find it.

At 17 I was at UCSD, headed for mathematics or theoretical physics, with my whole future laid out in front of me. I felt trapped. At 18 I dropped out and chose mystery instead.

That choice took me deep into the Amazon, then into a decade of summers in the Trinity Alps and winters travelling the world — more than 50 countries, by motorcycle, sailboat, through the Himalayas, the Amazon, and Africa. I drove from Denmark to India, fell in love with the Himalayas, and spent months living with Tibetan monks in Dharmsala.

At 30 I landed on Maui. For 16 years it’s been my home base. There I built a large tree business on Maui and Lānaʻi, ran it for 15 years, and sold it — because my goal was never the business itself. It was to play the money game just long enough to buy my freedom.

Now I spend my time travelling, in the ocean on foil and surf, and coaching men who feel trapped the way I once did. My gift is focus, and the power of motion — helping you find the life you were actually meant for, and then actually move toward it.

The problem

Trapped. Successful on paper. Empty in practice.

Most of the men I talk to aren't failing. The business runs, the job pays, the mortgage gets covered. From the outside it looks like it worked — because it did. It just stopped being the life they meant to build. You feel trapped in a life that works on paper and feels empty in practice.

  • You built it, and now it owns your calendarEvery week is spoken for before it starts, and none of it was chosen recently.
  • Money is the excuse and the obstacleYou can't see how to step back without the income falling apart — so you don't step back.
  • You've done the math a hundred timesSpreadsheets aren't the problem. There's no purpose on the other side of the exit yet, so the exit never happens.
  • You're not telling anyoneTo everyone else, you're the guy who has it figured out.

My story — in short

I built it. I sold it. Then I learned what freedom actually costs.

I built ClimbingHi on Maui, sold it, and found the money alone wasn't the exit. Freedom isn't just funded — it's aimed. Without a purpose on the other side, the trapped feeling follows you.

So I did the work in the right order: purpose first, then the money mechanics underneath it. Today I live between Maui and Lānaʻi, Mt Shasta, and global adventures worldwide — and I coach a small number of men through the same design. I'm not teaching a theory I read. I'm teaching the exit I live.

I've been called Code since I was a boy. I didn't know then what the name would come to mean.

Code X is the code that runs your life — the beliefs, habits, and money patterns you didn't consciously choose, but that quietly decide everything for you. Most men live by a code they never wrote.

Coaching is how you unfold it. Not all at once, not on a stage — piece by piece, in the story, the fears, the values, until the mystery starts to make sense.

And X marks the spot. Not a treasure buried somewhere else. The spot is you — the purpose, the freedom, the exit — waiting underneath the code you've been running.

The offer

Freedom by Design

One container, start to finish: a 2.5-day intensive to design the exit, then 12 weeks of weekly sessions to actually walk it. No open-ended hourly coaching that drifts.

Cody standing on a white concrete block at a high mountain lookout in Zanskar, India, looking out over a wide rocky valley

What you get

  • A 2.5-day intensive, week zero — in Hawaiʻi, at Mt Shasta, or online, in nature where possible
  • 12 weekly 1:1 sessions that turn the design into moves you actually make
  • A named purpose, a money plan, and a dated sequence of first moves

Who it's for — and not for

  • For: men in their 30s–60s whose life works on paper and feels trapped in practice, ready to redesign — not just promote themselves inside the same life
  • Not for: anyone wanting a course to watch, motivation to consume, or an answer that changes nothing about their weeks

What it's not

  • Not therapy — coaching, not diagnosis or treatment; I'll refer you out if that's what you need
  • Not a tour — travel serves the work, never the other way round
  • No guaranteed outcomes — I guarantee the design work and my honesty, not your results
  • Not regulated financial advice — licensed advisors handle that side

Understand this first

This isn’t a basic service you take and forget. This is a step toward building an entirely new way of looking at the world — seeing what’s possible, expanding what you believe you can do, and moving toward realizing your dreams.

Freedom by Design — founding round

Regular$7,500
Founding$6,000
Discovery$150, credited

The full container: 2.5-day intensive + 12 weekly sessions. Founding pricing for the first clients in, while I build this practice deliberately small. I take on roughly two new clients a month — when those spots are full, the next start is the following month. The price is the same online or in person — $6,000 founding / $7,500 regular, with the $150 discovery credited. There is no separate virtual discount. For in-person intensives, travel, food, and lodging are extra — paid by you, not included in this price. Online intensives have no travel, food, or lodging cost.

Why so few clients?

Because I got out of the rat race to live this life — travelling, foiling, climbing, riding — not to build a bigger cage with my name on it. Two clients a month means you get a coach who is actually living the exit he's teaching you to design, and who has the time to know your situation properly.

If demand is high, the answer is a waitlist, not more hours.

How it works

Three steps. No drift.

One container, start to finish — no open-ended hourly coaching that wanders. You always know which step you're in, and what comes next.

Step 1

Discovery call — the fit check

A real conversation, not a sales script — plan on around an hour. We name what you're actually stuck in — in your words — and I give you an honest read on whether I can help. It's also where we talk through how you'd want the intensive to look, including what level of luxury you're after. $150, credited in full toward Freedom by Design if we go ahead.

Step 2

The intensive — 2.5 days, in nature

We go deep, fast: where you are, what the exit is actually for, and the design of the life on the other side. The intensive can be held in Hawaiʻi, at Mt Shasta, or online — in person it's outdoors, not in a boardroom. Or, if you'd rather, you can pay to fly me somewhere interesting and we work there. The price is the same online or in person — $6,000 founding / $7,500 regular, $150 discovery credited, with no separate virtual discount. For in-person intensives, you pay for your own travel, food, and lodging — those aren't included in the price — and I can help arrange everything. Online intensives have no travel, food, or lodging cost. Physical challenge is part of it when you're up for it: a climb, the water, a ride. Breakthroughs land differently at altitude than on Zoom.

Step 3

Twelve weekly sessions — the follow-through

One hour a week, wherever in the world I am and wherever you are. Purpose work and money mechanics, turned into weekly commitments you keep. This is where the design becomes a calendar, an income structure, and a life — not a notebook from a good weekend.

What coaching is — and what it is not

Plainly, so there is no confusion before you start.

Coaching is

Forward-looking. It helps you see what is actually running your life — the beliefs, habits, and unmade decisions underneath the day-to-day — and then decide what you want to be true instead.

From there, we design and take concrete steps to get there, with accountability week by week. You choose the moves. I help you see clearly, decide honestly, and follow through.

Coaching is not

Not therapy. It is not diagnosing or treating mental illness, and it does not work on the past for its own sake.

Not advice from the sidelines. I am not here to hand you a plan and wave from a distance — we build your design together, in your words, for your life.

If clinical issues come up, I pause and refer out — I do not treat them. That boundary protects you, and it keeps the coaching clean.

The 2.5-day intensive, day by day

This is week zero — the intensive that starts Freedom by Design. Simplified here on purpose: enough to know what you are walking into, without the full working timetable.

Thursday eveningArrival

Phones off. Your story, in full.

We start by slowing down. Phones off, you tell your life story uninterrupted — how you got here, in your own words — and you state in one sentence what you want to be true that isn't. That sentence becomes the thread for everything that follows.

FridayExcavation

What is underneath the story

We look at the beliefs underneath that story, name the fears and decisions you have been avoiding, and price what standing still will cost you — in 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years. And we land it in the body, not just in talk: breathwork, cold, and exertion, so what you see, you feel.

SaturdayThe Turn

From excavation to a real exit

You face the unchanged-self future — the life that continues if nothing changes — and work the gap between your eulogy and your 80th birthday: what you would want said, and what you plan to celebrate. You draft your values in your own words, sketch a concrete exit — money, dates, and your first 3 moves — and stress-test it until it holds. The day includes a real physical challenge with a clear finish.

Sunday morningLaunch

Commitments you can be held to

You leave with 3 observable, dated commitments and a first-30-days plan — specific enough that we can tell, week by week, whether you did them. Sunday is also the handoff into the 12 weeks, so this is not a high that fades on Monday. It is a launch.

22 hoursContainer hours across the intensive — arrival to launch
17–18 hoursDirect coaching hours inside that container
Week zeroThe intensive comes first, before the 12 weekly sessions begin

Then: the 12 weeks

The intensive designs the exit. The 12 weeks are where you actually walk it.

Weekly 1-hour sessions

One hour a week, 1:1. Each session opens with the commitments from the last one and closes with the next ones — chosen by you, in your words, and revisited at the top of every session.

Between-session work

The work does not pause between calls. You will have specific work to do in your real life — conversations, decisions, and moves from your plan — not homework for its own sake.

Check-ins

Short check-ins keep you honest between sessions, so a hard week becomes information, not a reason to drift. You stay inside the work, week after week.

That is the point of the structure: you are entering the container, not leaving the work behind when the intensive ends. The 12 weeks are how an intensive turns into an actual exit — instead of just a powerful weekend you remember fondly while nothing changes.

What you leave with

A named purpose in your own words, a money plan that funds it, and a dated sequence of moves — what happens first, what waits, what you stop doing. Plus a man who's made the same moves in your corner.

Where we work

Three bases, one road

Maui and Mt Shasta are the home bases. Global Adventures is everywhere else — weekly sessions happen from wherever I am, and that's the point of the life we're designing for you, too.

Aerial view of Maui's green north-shore cliffs and headlands meeting deep blue Pacific water

Maui & Lānaʻi, Hawaiʻi

Home base

Where I built the business and where the ocean is the gym. Intensives here trade the mountain for the water — foil, wind, and trade-wind light.

Mt Shasta, California

Retreat base

My cabin country. Forest, altitude, and quiet — the home ground for in-person intensives, with guest cabins and treehouses in the plan.

Global Adventures

Worldwide

The road itself — Asia by motorcycle, anytime, not just winter; South America; the Himalayas; and beyond. Weekly sessions continue from the road — proof the design holds while you travel, not just at home.

The life

The life behind the work

No staging — the trees, the high roads, the water, and the quiet places in between. This is the life the coaching is designed around.

Referred here?

Sent by someone you trust

Most of my clients arrive through one person who knows them well — a therapist finishing good work, an advisor who's handled the money and watched the man stall, a friend who made his own exit. If that's you: welcome. The discovery call is how we check fit, and I'll report back to whoever sent you — only with your permission — on fit alone, never on session content.

If you're a professional reading this with a client in mind: the boundary is clean. Coaching here is purpose and life design — never therapy, never regulated financial advice. When a client hits something clinical or regulated, I refer back out. That's the deal that makes referring safe.

  • Therapists & counsellorsFor the stable client whose question has become “what's next?”
  • Financial advisors, CPAs & exit plannersFor the man with the money handled and no design for the life after.
  • Men's groups & retreat hostsFor the guy who did the weekend and needs twelve weeks of follow-through.
  • Friends who got outYou know one man who's where you were. An intro is enough.

Adventure extension — fit-gated

For the right client — a wild place, together

For some clients, when it's a genuine fit, the work can extend into planning a wild-place adventure together — the Himalayas, the Amazon, somewhere that puts the freedom you've just designed to a real test. It's an extension of the coaching, not a separate product, and it's not promised to everyone. Fit comes first — purpose, health, fitness, experience, and risk tolerance all have to line up before we talk about going. It's also not included in the Freedom by Design price — the adventure is a separate cost, agreed separately for the right client.

To be plain about the boundaries: the adventure is a separate cost, agreed separately, it is not included in Freedom by Design, and it is not a licensed guide service — it's an extension of the coaching for the right client, planned honestly around fitness, experience, and risk.

Straight answers

Questions men actually ask

Is this therapy?

No. Coaching works on purpose, design, and forward action with a man who's functioning and stuck — not on diagnosis, treatment, or the past for its own sake. If what comes up needs a therapist, I'll say so plainly and help you find one. Several of my referral partners are therapists for exactly that reason. Not sure which one you need? That's a fair question for the discovery call — we'll sort it honestly.

Do I have to travel to work with you?

No. The weekly sessions are by video from wherever you are, and the 2.5-day intensive can be held online if that fits best. The virtual price is the same as the in-person price — $6,000 founding / $7,500 regular, with the $150 discovery credited — and there is no separate virtual discount. In person, it's held in Hawaiʻi or at Mt Shasta, because the work lands deeper in nature — or, if you'd rather, you can pay to fly me somewhere interesting and we work there. If you do travel for an in-person intensive, your travel, food, and lodging are yours to pay for — they're extra, not included in the Freedom by Design price — and I can help arrange everything. Online intensives have no travel, food, or lodging cost. What level of luxury you're looking for is something we discuss on the discovery call — plan on around an hour for that call — and we'll pick the format that fits your situation. You don't need to be an athlete; physical challenge is offered, never required.

What if I'm not ready to quit?

Then we don't design a resignation — we design an exit on your timeline. For some men that's stepping back, selling, or restructuring over a year or more; for others it's redesigning the role so the life comes back first. “Not ready to quit” is a design constraint, not a disqualifier. Bring your real timeline to the discovery call and we'll design around it.

What does the adventure cost?

It's a separate cost, agreed separately, for the right client only — not included in Freedom by Design, not promised to everyone, and not a licensed guide service. Fit comes first: purpose, health, fitness, experience, and risk tolerance all have to line up before cost is even a conversation. If a wild place is part of your exit, raise it on the discovery call.

What if it's not a fit?

Then we find out on the discovery call, cheaply and honestly. That's what the call is for. There's no hard sell and no pitch if I don't think I can help — I'll tell you what I'd do instead, and if I know the right person, I'll point you to them. The $150 is credited in full if we do go ahead. The only way to know is the discovery call itself.

How many clients do you take?

About two new clients a month, on purpose. This practice exists to fund a free life, not to become a new job — mine or yours. If the month is full, discovery calls still happen and starts roll to the next opening. If you're seriously considering this, don't wait for a “better” month — request the discovery call and we'll talk timing plainly.

What happens in the 12 weeks, concretely?

We work from the goal you set in your own words at the start — revisited at the top of every session. Early weeks go deep on purpose and what the exit is for; middle weeks build the money mechanics and the sequence of moves; late weeks are execution, obstacles, and locking the new rhythm in. Every session ends with commitments you chose, and the next one opens with them. Your version of those 12 weeks starts with the discovery call.
